ABOUT ME

My name is Melissa McBride and I am from Saint Simons Island, Georgia. I was born in Dallas, Texas but moved to Georgia in 1998 from North Carolina. I live with my mom, my younger sister, Emily and our two dogs, Barney and Hackett.

I graduated from Glynn Academy high school in 2007. That same year, I started my freshman year of college at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. The next year, I transferred to Samford University in Birmingham, AL, where I am currently a junior. I am majoring in journalism and mass communication with an emphasis in print journalism and a minor in political science.

I became interested in journalism in high school. I really enjoyed my English classes and found that writing was a good outlet for me. I liked using words to convey my thoughts to others. Ever since my sophomore year of high school, I have wanted to be a writer. Because I enjoy politics and work with social justice groups, I hope to write about topics that affect the world and hope to influence others through my writing.

So far, I have written articles for both the Berry College and Samford University newspapers, the Samford yearbook and also for The Brunswick News daily newspaper.

One day, I hope to write for a major daily or political magazine about social justice events around the world.
