ensembles for two morning services; coordinated soloists and guest
musicians; conducted works by Mendelssohn, Rutter, and others in a
service of lessons and carols, December 19. Has recently (Sept.-Nov.
2010)
served as interim adult choir director.
January 1999 - December 2001. Music Director, Faith Presbyterian Church, Birmingham, Alabama. Directed adult choir and children's choir; developed and led instrumental program; prepared and led praise music for evening service summer and fall 2000. Increased choir membership 50 percent while overall church membership increased approximately 25 percent. June 1993 - July 1995, August 1996 - December 1998. Music Director, Eastwood Presbyterian Church, Montgomery, Alabama. Led adult choir, youth choir, and directed graded children's choir program, which included leading the older children's choir (grades 2-6); arranged and transcribed music for available instruments; planned budget; supervised paid staff members and other volunteers. Selected works performed with orchestral accompaniment: Elijah, Part 1 (Mendelssohn); "Many Moods of Christmas," Suite One (Shaw); "Arise, Your Light Has Come" (Danner); Hymns Triumphant (Holdridge); Messiah, Part 1 (Handel).
1982 - 1988. Lay assistant conductor and rehearsal assistant, Briarwood Presbyterian Church, Birmingham, Alabama. Directed choirs of 20-25 members (Briarwood South) or 30-40 members (Briarwood Church; over 100 members for special programs) and led congregational singing in Sunday morning worship services two or three Sundays per month during much of this period. Conducted rehearsals in absence of Minister of Music and held sectional rehearsals when he was present. Selected works rehearsed: Elijah (Mendelssohn), Manzoni Requiem (Verdi), Light Eternal (Talbot).
