Japanese Calligraphy I
Tuesdays, January 20-March 3
6:00 - 8:00 PM
Instructor: Leona Donaldson
Russell Hall 225
This course provides an accessible introduction to the art of Japanese calligraphy (Shodo). Using the versatile calligraphy brush pen, students will learn the fundamental techniques of this traditional art form without the need for traditional ink preparation. The course will focus on the principles of the Kaisho (regular script) style, including correct posture, brush pen handling, and the execution of the eight basic strokes. Through the practice of writing simple Japanese kanji characters, students will develop fine motor control, an understanding of aesthetic balance, and an appreciation for this significant cultural art form. No knowledge of the Japanese language is required. Class requires a 4 student minimum to make.
*Please note: no refunds will be given for cancellations made after 7 business days prior to the start of class.
